Text Readability Checker – Flesch-Kincaid Score Online

Readability is one of the most important factors in content writing. Content that is too complex loses readers; content that is too simple loses credibility. Our free Readability Checker analyzes your text against three proven readability formulas used by educators, publishers, and content marketers worldwide.

Understanding the Three Scores

Flesch Reading Ease (0–100)
Scores range from 0 (very hard) to 100 (very easy). Most websites and blog posts should aim for 60–70. News articles target 60+. Academic writing typically scores 30–50.
Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level
Corresponds to US school grade levels. Grade 8 means an 8th grader can understand it. For general web content, aim for Grade 6–8. Higher grades require more education.
Gunning Fog Index
Estimates the years of formal education needed to understand the text. Below 12 is ideal for most audiences. Values above 17 indicate very complex, graduate-level writing.
How can I improve my readability score?
Use shorter sentences (aim for 15–20 words). Replace complex words with simpler alternatives. Break long paragraphs into shorter ones. Use active voice instead of passive voice. Avoid jargon unless writing for specialists.
